Baosteel's 1,000 Tons of "Energy Storage Steel" Boosts Western Green Power

Recently, as the last batch of steel plates was hotly rolled out from the wide and thick plate heat treatment production line of Baotou Iron and Steel Co., Ltd.'s Thin Plate Plant, all their properties perfectly met the standards. This marks the successful completion of the production and delivery task of 1,000 tons of new high-strength and easily weldable container steel for compressed air energy storage power stations, which is the first mass production of Baotou Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. These "steel armors" will be shipped to the construction site of a compressed air energy storage power station project in Inner Mongolia, injecting strong impetus into the new energy construction in western China.

It is reported that a compressed air energy storage power station is a new type of energy storage facility that realizes electric energy storage and release by using the principle of air compression and expansion. The core container needs to withstand high pressure and frequent charge-discharge cycles. Therefore, the steel must have high strength, high fatigue resistance, corrosion resistance, and good welding performance.

The successful delivery of this new grade of high-strength and easily weldable container steel for compressed air energy storage has successfully opened up a new track for energy storage steel.
